Public Talk - Day 1

May 16 (16.00-18.30)
ASPECTS OF THE WALDORF CURRICULUM
Waldorf school education is not a pedagogical system but an art - the art of awakening what is actually there within human being

Thank you to all of the participants of  Public Talk
with Horst Hellmann and Sharing Session with Gobind Vashdev

Our education system should give an opportunity for children to answer these questions :

“Who am I and why do I exist?
What is my role in life and in the community?
How can I influence and make a difference in the world?”

It's a process. Start from the first 7 years of child's development. Strong will that children have at this stage is followed by the "I" or ego that comes into their body. Before the "I" comes, new born baby has no control over limbs. You can see what pure will is like. Then the child learns to get the will under control. What is bringing the will under control? That is the "I" who will control their body. At that moment, children begin to realize that "I can stand upright, I can walk, and so on....I CAN DO THIS!

It's so important that the child is allowed to do the process by her/himself. We as adult should give the child opportunities to get the will under control. When we help the children or try to stop/over prevent them (oohh..don't do that, that's dangerous), then the "I" of the child can not really enter the body fully. These children have difficulties to control their movements. They may become hyperactive.

Then the child can't become consciously saying "there is the world and here am I." When the child has no quality of this "I" , then how can he/she answer those three questions in his/her later life?
